You need to differentiate yourself from the others and make a name (brand) in the industry or community you are in. Let’’s take Donald Trump, for example, one of the most successful businessmen in the world. He has established his name as a brand and uses it for any new venture he starts. From a freelance or new business owner point of view what you need to do to differentiate from others is to choose your unique company name, title, and website domain name. How to Choose Company Name It is fine if you choose your first or last name for your company (as Donald Trump does) but it is recommended to choose another word (or two) for your company name to differentiate yourself better from the rest. For example, there might be another Jim Stone, even in your hometown, that does the same business you do. You don'’t what to be confused with that person, right. It is fine to choose more than one word for the name of your company, just try keeping it short. Don'’t make the mistake to add words like design after the name, because you never know in the future you might want to expand and, for example, add web application development to your business. You might consider something like studio, which gives you much broader range of service and it is much better choice overall. Just shuffle the letters from you name and create unique name of your company. How to Choose Domain Name Nowadays it is very hard when comes up to choosing a domain name, simply because most one word or two words domains are taken. If your company name is two words you will have better chance to get the domain name you want. For example, lets say that you have unique name and you choose your last name as company name and add studio at the end. You will have the following option for domain name based on the name (Jim Stone): stonestudio.com stonestudios.com stonestudio.us jstonestudio.com etc. How to Choose Your Title You have to clear view in what youíre going to do. If you do only web development you will call yourself web developer not web programmer because the second one covers both aspects designing and programming the site. If you do consulting you'’ll call yourself consultant, but on the other side you cannot call yourself consultant if you havenít reached leadership position in the field and are being payed as a uniquely qualified expert.\r\nGiving yourself a title that is higher-up than you really are will make you look less professional. For example, I have younger clients who are new in business and they love to call themselves ‘’CEO'’ even though they are the only person in their company! They can use that title, but it’’s not really industry standard or the right fit. If your client needs website developed, he probably doesn'’t want an ‘’owner'’ or a ‘’ceo'’ or a ‘’consultant'’, he wants to talk with the web developer or initially with the sales person. Do your homework and you'’ll have the your compnay name, title, and domain name right. ‘choose-company-name-title-and-domain’, ‘publish’, ‘open’, ‘To have successful online business or, in that note, any kind of business you need to establish your brand first.
